Haikus by Diane

Slashes of scarlet
birds in a mass of gray twigs
at rest in the cold

Amidst the purple
clouds like spilled ink in the sky
then peach-pink of dawn

Deer huddle in snow
silhouetted in stark white
just head and ears now.

This shell, this vessel
can succeed or disappoint
fighting fat daily

Many years gone by
I believe much more in that
which I cannot see

In my creation
a solitary journey
to heights unknown

Brought to each new day
fellowship in mere living
survival of love

Wednesday Haiku

Spring sprang green and lush
shade shadows appeared on streets
baby leaves birthed

Coasting on my bike
down my childhood summer street
Look, Mom, no hands, look!

A haiku is small
it has a five seven five
prison to live in

Happy Friday Haiku

You will never trust
as you did when Dad held you
in strong and safe arms

(Happy Birthday Dad!)

This shell, this vessel
can succeed or disappoint
fighting fat daily

Years have come and passed
hands rise to cover her ears
and her weeping eyes

More Haiku!

I always wanted
a circular drive to let
people in - or out.

Some scars are unseen
demons of iniquity
embedded with tears.

Many years gone by
I believe much more in that
which I cannot see.

Deer huddle in snow
silhouetted in stark white
just head and ears show.

Haiku for a Cold Thursday

Anger at others
who don't believe as you do
is a waste of life

Snow fairies falling
to earth, twinkling satellites
circling in a waltz

Slashes of scarlet
birds in a mass of gray twigs
at rest in the cold

Fear is like trying
to stop a roller coaster
with your bare feet

Haiku for a Wednesday

Brought to each new day
fellowship in mere living
survival of love

In my creation
a solitary journey
to heights unknown

The sun of my soul
fell into total eclipse
the day I left God

Three Haiku Poems

Snowflakes like fairies
from a fissure in heaven
a fun flotilla

A daughter will fly
each generation is more
she is more than me

A son makes you smile
because now he is a man
his voice brings new joy

S'more Haiku

scrape of metal rakes
copious piles of red leaves
jump in and smell them

smell of burning wood
smolders into a new day
permeates the air

amidst the purple
clouds like spilled ink in the sky
then peach-pink of dawn

Haiku for a Monday

These are my first attempts at haiku. If you remember from Junior High English class the first line is 5 syllables the second is 7 and the last is 5.

our nation now stands
on a fragile house of cards
please come and save us

a small wooden cross
by the roadside reminds me
to buckle up now

bird arrows, hawk's wings
slashing contrails intersect
the pure and blue sky

eyelids flap open
songs waken me in the night
music in my dreams
