by Ted Kooser
This evening, I sat by an open window
and read until the light was gone
and the book was no more
than a part of the darkness.
I could easily have switched on a lamp,
but I wanted to ride this day down into night,
to sit alone and smooth the unreadable page
with the pale gray ghost of my hand.

but I wanted to ride this day down into night,
to sit alone and smooth the unreadable page
with the pale gray ghost of my hand.

Happy Birthday, Diane. I love Ted Kooser. Thanks for sharing one of his poems.
Happy, happy birthday! It's Saturday morning here, already, but still Friday night where you are, right? So, technically, I'm still on time. (grin) Be blessed.
Happy birthday Diane!
I'm sorry I missed your birthday. Wishing you a year of health and happiness.
