Haiku for a Monday

These are my first attempts at haiku. If you remember from Junior High English class the first line is 5 syllables the second is 7 and the last is 5.

our nation now stands
on a fragile house of cards
please come and save us

a small wooden cross
by the roadside reminds me
to buckle up now

bird arrows, hawk's wings
slashing contrails intersect
the pure and blue sky

eyelids flap open
songs waken me in the night
music in my dreams

This is your FIRST attempt? You are AMAZING. I've never read such poignant haiku. You are a blessed writer. Never stop. When I do my art I feel like I'm channeling. It takes a surrender to a higher SELF. I am so moved by these. Consider publishing.

I agree with Bonnie! I never would have known this was your first attempt if you had not told us. These are all beautiful poems. The wooden cross by the side of the road is a powerful reminder, and I see those every day.

Even though each of these poems is great, I think my favorite poem here is "bird arrows, hawk's wings," because I'm such a nature lover. What a gorgeous image. Slashing contrails. Yes! Wonderful work.

These are beuatiful, Diane. The pic really matches the one about contrails, and I am particularly moved by the one about the cross by the side of the road. There are so many these days. Excellent work.

These are quite moving. I think the first one captures the mood of the country quite well, and the cross by the side of the road is sobering.
